Photoshop 5.5 lesson du jour: How to make a red pill with four easy filters

1.

First, create a new RGB, 72 dpi photoshop file, 60x75 pixels with a black background.
2. Create a new layer and name it "pill." Layer > New > Layer will bring up New Layer window. Use default settings.
3. Draw an oval, using the elliptical marquee tool.
4. Fill the oval with red, using the paint bucket tool. First make your foreground color red, by double clicking on the foreground color to bring up the Color Picker window.
5. Rotate the canvas 30°CW. Image > Rotate Canvas > Arbitrary will bring up the Rotate Canvas window. Enter 30 and click CW radio button.
6. Make the oval 3D. Layer>Effects>Bevel and Emboss will bring up the Effects window. Change the highlight color to a light yellow. Change the depth and blur from 5 to 20.
7. Make the pill translucent. Layer>Effects>inner shadow. Use default settings.
8. Give the pill an optional soft outline. Layer>Effects>outer glow. Change color to light yellow, and intensity to 50%.
Then thicken it slightly. Layer>Effects>inner glow. Change to the same color and intensity.
